The EV Outlier Concept was named a Red Dot winner in the Design Concept category, while Honda’s “What Is a Motorcycle? / Electric Motorcycles” brand film received recognition in the Brand & Communication Design category. Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, the EV Outlier Concept offers Honda’s vision for motorcycles beyond 2030, rather than simply adapting existing motorcycle designs to electric power.
Central to the concept is its unusual layout, with in-wheel electric motors fitted to both the front and rear wheels. Honda says this freedom of design allows the Outlier to adopt an extremely low riding position, creating a distinctive profile and an expansive field of view for the rider. The concept follows Honda’s electric motorcycle design theme of “Precision of Intrinsic Design”, with smooth surfaces and a smoke-clear body intended to highlight the motorcycle’s mechanical elements while creating a sense of movement.
Honda’s electric motorcycle brand film was also recognised by Red Dot. Built around the brand promise “Expected life. Unexpected discoveries,” the film explores Honda’s vision for electric motorcycles and how future electric mobility could integrate with everyday life. Toshinobu Minami, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Honda R&D’s Design Center, said the awards recognise Honda’s efforts to anticipate future needs and create new forms of value. Honda has a long history of success at the Red Dot Design Awards, with the latest honours adding another chapter to its global design record.
