Over three decades, Kawasaki’s KFX90 has been a colossus in the youth ATV market. The 2023 model has received plenty of updates.

It all starts with revisions to the centre cover and grille, while the white number plate promotes strong links to the firm’s iconic range of KX motocrossers. Taller front fenders convey an image of robust off-road performance, while the LED accent lights – previously just decals – not only offer enhanced cosmetic flair but increase visibility of kids for parents and guardians.

The KFX90 has also modernised the tail end with LED lighting, and there’s now less chance of mud and debris making their way into the engine bay thanks to larger covers inside the wheel wells. The handlebar pad now features a Kawasaki logo, adding to the strong family ties.

The KFX90 is perfectly suited to children 12 years and over, exhibiting a light and neutral feel. The quad goes exactly where you want it to and, even when pushed hard on rough terrain, balance and stability are not compromised thanks to the Independent A-arm front suspension with preload adjustable shock absorbers and the durable steel frame. Eighteen-inch tyres and 150mm ground clearance at the frame also add to the KFX90’s ultra-compliant ride.

Riders also get excellent foot protection with slip-resistant floorboards running under the footpegs between the front and rear fenders. Key parental control measures include the keyed ignition and throttle-limiting screw. A low 650mm seat height makes mounting and dismounting a cinch.

The 5.3-litre fuel tank ensures the bulletproof 90cc air-cooled, OHC four-stroke engine (6.5kW/6.6Nm) will keep going all through the ride.  A CVT transmission, centrifugal clutch and electric start (with kickstart back-up) add to the user-friendly experience.

The KFX90 has mechanical drum brakes at the front and a rear hydraulic disc – ample stopping power for the 122kg machine. And when the fun ends, engage the parking brake to bookend the day! The turning circle is a tight 2.7 metres.

One colour for 2023: Lime Green Recommended retail price is $3,894. Please note: The recommended retail price does not include dealer delivery & pre-inspection costs. The KFX90 is available now from Kawasaki Dealerships.
