As the 2016 MX Nationals heads towards the mid-season break, National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s motocross riders are eagerly anticipating their return of the iconic deep sand track of Wanneroo, Western Australia, on Sunday.

Riders only visit the sandy WA circuit every two years and as such, it’s a venue that Matt Moss, Kade Mosig and Jake Moss are looking forward to visiting on back-to-back weekends of racing.

NATIONAL KAWASAKI RACING TEAM READY TO TAME THE WILD WESTMultiple national champion Matt Moss experienced a tough round at Murray Bridge in South Australia last weekend where he fought to a sixth overall in the hotly-contested MX1 class. Having two rounds on consecutive weekends gives the New South Welshman an opportunity to make serious amends and leave a lasting statement as the championship enters a five-week break.

“I’ve had success in the past at Wanneroo and finished second there in 2014, so there’s no excuses for me this weekend,” Moss said. “I can ride sand well and I’m looking forward to finishing this first half of the season on a high note and carrying that momentum into the break.”

Mosig enters this weekend’s round with an extra injection of motivation and confidence after an inspired ride at Murray Bridge. Still tender and recovering from a crash at Broadford, Mosig led half of the opening MX1 race before finishing second, then backed it up with a sixth in the closing race. Mosig says he knows what he needs to do in order to build on his momentum.

“We’ve made some good progress and it’s good to see I’ve got the speed,” Mosig elaborated. “The belief’s there now, I just need to get a good start and push as hard as possible all moto. Everyone is so closely matched that you can’t afford to have a bad start. I’m excited to head to Perth this week and keep the ball rolling.”

In the MX2 class Jake Moss’s impressive run of consistent results sees him planted in third position in the championship hunt and he’s eyeing Wanneroo as a venue where he can snatch his first round win of the year.

“I’m healthy, I’m still in third in the championship and we’re still in with a good shot at the title,” he explained. “Wanneroo is one of my favourite tracks in Australia. I’ve always done really well there and I can’t wait to get back out West and get it done on Sunday.”

The gates will open at 7:30am for Sunday’s fifth round of the MX Nationals at Wanneroo. Tickets are available at the gate.
