Wakefield Park Raceway saw the HI-TEC Batteries Australian Supersport 300 Championship riders braved the elements during Saturday’s Round Two of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK), with Reid Battye (DB Racing, Ninja 300) capturing the pole position of Race 1 outright.

Up To 300

Battye (Up To 300) again proved to be a force on the Kawasaki as he blitzed the field in slippery conditions, so far mirroring his Round One efforts at Phillip Island. He climbed to the top of the combined Over and Up To 300 race. Friday’s qualifying favourite, Drew Sells (Race Centre, Kawasaki Ninja 300) took second place in the Up To 300 class over the cool, calm and collected, Oli Bayliss (Kawasaki, Ninja 300).

Battye was grateful for such a result in the trying conditions and to capitalise on a points gap, adding; “It was a fantastic race, and I am really glad to be standing on the podium with the rest of these boys. The bike was working really well out there and ran well too, thanks to DB Racing. The first session for me was not the best, and I wasn’t happy with it, But I felt much more comfortable in the second session which helped pay-off for the win! I felt a lot better in the conditions and that showed in the results –  I don’t mind cutting up on the inside of the boys in corners at here (Wakefield Park Raceway) either!” He finished.

Over 300

Jack Mahaffy (JDS Moto ,Yamaha YZF-R3) adapted his riding style to better suit the short, sharp and greasy track to clench second place outright but first in class ahead of fellow Over 300 counterpart and third place getter outright, Billy Van Eerde (KTM Aust, KTM RC-390). South Australian Ty Lynch (Adelaide Motorcycle Recovery, Yamaha YZF-R3) was third in class rounding out the Over 300 podium for Race 1 of the Hi Tech Batteries Suppersport 300 category.

With riders securing their place on the Wakefield grid ahead of Sunday’s ten lap combined race at 1pm local time, the super tightly contested development or ‘feeder’ 300 categories will prove to be a spectacle, given the near capacity grid that will line up in the fight to turn one. The third race will commence at 4:05pm.
