Sydney returns to Australian Speedway Championship calendar
Sydney will return to the Australian Speedway Championship calendar in 2027, with Western Sydney Speedway confirmed as the host venue for the fourth and final round on January 9. The announcement marks Sydney’s first Australian Speedway Championship round in 19 years.
Western Sydney Speedway, beside Sydney Motorsport Park and adjacent to Sydney Dragway, officially opened in 2022 and staged its first solo motorcycle speedway event 2025, won by Speedway Grand Prix star Jack Holder.
The inclusion of the venue on the 2027 championship calendar is expected to provide a major boost for speedway in New South Wales, with the 500-metre circuit becoming the largest track featured in the four-round series.
Organisers believe the expansive layout will create spectacular racing conditions as Australia’s top riders battle for the national title in the championship finale.
The 2027 championship begins at the historic Olympic Park Speedway on January 2 before heading to Gillman Speedway on January 4 and then Diamond Park on January 7. All three venues have become established fixtures on the Australian Speedway Championship calendar in recent seasons.
2027 Australian Speedway Championship Calendar
Round 1 – January 2: Olympic Park Speedway, Mildura (VIC)
Round 2 – January 4: Gillman Speedway (SA)
Round 3 – January 7: Diamond Park, Wodonga (VIC)
Round 4 – January 9: Western Sydney Speedway, Eastern Creek (NSW)
The addition of Sydney to the calendar is expected to significantly increase interest in the 2027 championship, particularly given the growing popularity of the Western Sydney Speedway venue and the strong local support for riders such as Jack Holder and younger brother Chris Holder.
