Macna’s Bora is a textile, hot weather riding pant that is just as well-suited to adventure touring as it would be to a daily commute. We put them to the test on and off-road...

Lightweight, understated in style and extremely comfortable, the Macna Bora pant is an even mix of mesh and textile panels that deliver good airflow to the body while also providing heat resistance at panels on the bottom of the legs. We put them to the test on and off-road.

Matt wore the Bora pants on the BMW GS Safari and on his F 900 GS Enduro test, and continues to wear them in Adventure testing.

Matt wore the Bora pants on the BMW GS Safari and on his F 900 GS Enduro test, and continues to wear them in Adventure testing. The Bora pants have been around for a few years now and we have always rated them highly.

They are comfortable enough to wear all day long with a meshed liner and a soft waist line. The armour is minimal with moulded knee protectors – that are adjustable for height – and foam pads at the hips. And the heat resistant panels help protect you from areas that can come in contact with things like exhausts and engine covers.

The waist closure is via a sleek clasp design along with a traditional zipper and there are two Velcro straps on the hips. There is a two-position tensioner above the knee while at the bottom of the legs a zip comes as high as the knee roll and has a Velcro-closure flap. Designed to be worn over an off-road boot and comfortable enough to tuck inside of one, it’s a great feature of the pants.

There is a small zipper on the back of the waistline for the pants to attach to any of the Macna jackets in the range and there are rubber tabs to take braces if that’s how you roll. There are a total of four waterproof pockets – on the hips and thighs – and there’s a neat little grip panel on the seat of the pants to stop you sliding around on the saddle.

Priced comparatively with a set of riding jeans, the Bora is a much safer, a lot more comfortable, and much cooler option for adventure touring riders that would normally consider a set of MX nylons as their best option for a mix of tarmac and riding off the beaten track. And that makes them great value for money in my opinion, even though they left me wanting hip protectors which are available for $40 as a genuine accessory.
