Race Report - Round 2: Hughes Limousines WA State Road Racing Championships. Words & Photography: John Innes

On Sunday 17th July the Motorcycle Racing Club of WA  (MCRCWA) conducted the second round of the 2016 Hughes Limousines State Road Racing Championships at Barbagallo Raceway.

The weather forecast for the day was average to say the least but once again we were lucky and defied the weather gods for around 90 per cent of the day with light winds and sunny conditions.

It was only the last six races that were affected by some rain, with the Superbikes, Supersport and 125GP running on a damp track but without any actual rain falling.

HUGHES LIMOUSINES SUPERBIKES:

The Hughes Limousines Superbike Championship saw two different winners on the day with Adam Chambers (HTR Kawasaki ZX-10R) winning the first two races which were run in the dry, while Ben Stronach (Swift Windscreens Kawasaki ZX-10R) took out the final eight lapper on a wet track.

The first race was red flagged for a second time after six laps and the race was declared at that point after Anton Jones and Scott McCue both crashed. Chambers was just a second ahead of the fast finishing Ralph Mammoliti (Trakdayz Kawasaki ZX-10R) with Stronach 0.8s further back. Adam Senior (Consent 2 Go Yamaha R1) was fourth, with Scott Pettit (Pro-Twin Yamaha R1) rounding out the top five.

ADAM CHAMBERS - ROUND WINNER IN THE SUPERBIKES - Bike Review

Race two and Chambers again got away to a flyer with both Mammoliti and Stronach chasing hard but he wasn’t to be denied with a two second buffer when he crossed the line ahead of Stronach who got the better of Mammoliti. Senior and Pettit again finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The final race got underway after a shower and it was Stronach who handled the conditions best with a strong win on a damp track. He was just over two seconds ahead of Mammoliti with Keith Harrison (Nafai Property Group Kawasaki ZX-10R) in third place after a strong ride in difficult conditions.

Senior and Pettit finished fourth and fifth with Chambers only managing to come home in sixth place. Chambers won the round with 65 points taking his total to 112,  just 14 points behind championship leader Stronach who was second on the day with 63 points. Ralph Mammoliti was third on the day with 58 points and remains third overall on 106 points.

SAM CLARKE - SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER - Bike Review

THE HYDROQUIP SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP:

Current State and National Supersport Championships leader Sam Clarke (Banhams WA Kawasaki ZX-6R) continue his winning run with three decisive wins on a borrowed bike. His own race bikes stayed on the East Coast following the recent test at Morgan Park.

Clarke was focused on victory and he was not going to be denied, winning by four seconds. Try as he might Tim Boujos (JB Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R) could only manage to be runner-up and brother Leigh was third in the first race.

TIM BOUJOS #48 SAM CLARKE #36 (OBS) FIGHT IT OUT DURING THE FIRST SUPERSPORT RACE - Bike Review

Tim Boujos (#48) and Sam Clarke (#36) fought it out during the first Supersport race.

In the second race Clarke was again the rider calling the shots again winning by just short of four seconds with Matt Price (Joondalup Carpet Court Kawasaki ZX-6R) taking third place. In the final race Clarke, Tim Boujos and Price were the top three with Tommy King and Leigh Boujos rounding out the top five.

Clarke scored 75 points, Tim Boujos was second with 60 and Price was third with 53 points. In the championship Clarke is on top with 139 points, Leigh Boujos is second with 109 and third is younger brother Tim Boujos on 105 points.

SCOTT PETTIT - WINNER 125GP - Bike Review

FASTLINE GP RACING 125GP CHAMPIONSHIP:

The Fastline 125GP Championship saw Scott Pettit (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) made a clean sweep of the three races to dominate the championship.

In the first race Pettit won by three seconds from defending champion Dave Doughty (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) with Tom Hatton (Tom Hatton Racing Honda RS 125) third.

The second race was a repeat with Pettit again winning by a margin of three seconds.

The final race saw Pettit win by 4.5s from Scott Topping (Honda RS 125) with David Manson (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) in the minor podium position.

Pettit won the round with a perfect score of 75 points, second was Doughty with 55 and third was Hatton on 53 points. Pettit has a commanding lead with 170 points, while Manson is second on 137 and Hatton third on 121 points with defending champion Dave Doughty in fourth place with 105 points.

THE PRODUCTION FIELD OF 33 STARTERS - Bike Review

THE HELMET HOUSE PRODUCTION SERIES:

Ray Tschorn (KTM West KTM RC390) took three comfortable wins from as many starts. With thirty three riders on the grid there was action all the way through the field with riders having their own personal dices for the whole five laps. Second was Jake Hancock (Streetsahead Carpentry Kawasaki Ninja 300) with Lachlan Keogh (Trakdayz Kawasaki Ninja 300) third. Michael King (BrandSense Kawasaki Ninja 300) was fourth with Jessica (Panik Racing Kawasaki Ninja 300) in fifth place.

The second race saw Tschorn again a clear winner with Hancock in second spot just half a second ahead of Keogh in third. Boujos and King swapped places, rounding out the top five.

The final race saw Tschorn winning by three seconds from Keogh with Boujos in third place. Lara Marais (Kawasaki Ninja 300) was fourth and King was fifth.

UP TO 300CC ROUND WINNER LACHLAN KEOGH - Bike Review

Up to 300cc round winner, Lachlan Keogh.

This Series is split into two divisions, up to 300cc and over 300cc. In the up to 300cc Lachlan Keogh won the round with 65 points, second was Jessica Boujos with 55 and third was Michael King on 52 points.

In the Series Lachlan Keogh leads with 134 points, second is Lachlan Hickey with 133 and third is Jonah Sita with 122 points.

ROUND WINNER IN THE OVER 300CC DIVISION - RAY TSCHORN - Bike Review

Round winner in the Over 300cc division, Ray Tschorn.

In the over 300cc Ray Tschorn won the round with 75 points, second was James Smith with 60 and third was Jodie Brown with 52 points.

In the Series Tschorn has a commanding lead with 175 points, second is Smith on 136 and third is Brown on 114 points.

AARON LINHAM - THE HELMET HOUSE CLUBMAN 600 WINNER - Bike Review

THE HELMET HOUSE CLUBMAN 600:

Aaron Linham (Kawasaki ZX-6R) took three commanding wins and stamped his authority over the rest of the field. His winning margins was three seconds in the first race, second was Jacob Kelsall (Suzuki GSX-R600) with Reevenjit Singh (WASSC Kawasaki ZX-6R) in third place.

Race two and the same three riders finished in the same order with Linham’s winning margin extended to four seconds.

The final race saw Linham finish the six lap journey with a 9.5s advantage over Singh in second place with Andrew Smiles (JW Moto Parts Honda CBR 600RR) in third.

Linham won the day with 75 points, second was Singh on 56 and third was Smiles with 50 points.

ENZO D'ALESSANDRO - WINNER CLUBMAN 1000 - Bike Review

THE CHAIN REACTION CLUBMAN 1000:

In the first race John Quinn (Flashpoint Motosport Suzuki GSX-R1000) won the race from Enzo D’Alessandro (SKB Honda CBR1000RR) with Ash Jennings taking the minor podium place.

The second race saw D’Alessandro take the win from Quinn with James Smith (Badger Racing Honda CBR1000RR) in third place.

The final race and this time it was Smith who greeted the chequered flag with D’Alessandro in second place and Jennings taking third place.

D’Alessandro won the meeting with 65 points, second was Quinn on 62 and third was Smith with 60 points.

WA STATE ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS RD. 3

Round 3 will be held on 31st July. The Sidecars will return for round 3 and the Production class will have a break.
