The SV-7S joins the SV-7GX and builds on more than 25 years of SV650 heritage, retaining the familiar 645cc 90-degree V-twin while introducing a substantially updated electronics package and revised chassis and ergonomics. Suzuki says the new model has been developed to appeal to everyone from newer riders to experienced motorcyclists, with a combination of accessible performance, everyday practicality and sporting ability.
Familiar V-twin, updated technology
At the heart of the SV-7S is the proven 645cc liquid-cooled DOHC 90-degree V-twin, featuring a 81 x 62.6mm bore and stroke and an 11.2:1 compression ratio.
Maximum output is quoted at 54kW at 8500rpm, with peak torque of 64Nm at 6800rpm. Suzuki has retained the engine’s characteristic linear torque delivery while updating its fuel injection and combustion systems, including downdraft throttle bodies, dual-spark iridium plugs and SCEM-plated cylinders. The engine is Euro 5+ compliant and now incorporates ride-by-wire throttle control, working alongside the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). A six-speed transmission is fitted, with a standard bi-directional quickshifter allowing clutchless up and down gear changes.
Suzuki Intelligent Ride System
The SV-7S receives a comprehensive electronic package designed to improve rider confidence and adaptability. Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) provides three selectable engine modes, while the three-mode Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) can also be switched off. ABS is fitted, along with Suzuki Easy Start System and Low RPM Assist to simplify starting and low-speed manoeuvring.
The addition of ride-by-wire and the bi-directional quickshifter brings the SV platform up to date with the expectations of modern middleweight motorcycles.
Revised chassis and ergonomics
The chassis retains a tubular steel trellis frame paired with a high-rigidity oblong swingarm, with Suzuki targeting agile handling and a low centre of gravity.
Suspension consists of 41mm telescopic front forks and a link-type rear monoshock with seven-step spring preload adjustment. Braking is handled by twin 290mm floating front discs with four-piston calipers and a rear disc, supported by ABS. Ten-spoke cast-aluminium wheels are fitted with Dunlop Roadsmart III sport-touring tyres, in 120/70ZR17 front and 160/60ZR17 rear sizes.
Ergonomics have also been revised, with a 785mm seat height, a slim 14-litre fuel tank and wider tapered aluminium handlebars positioned closer to the rider. Overall dimensions are 2115mm long, 785mm wide and 1090mm high, with a 1445mm wheelbase and 135mm ground clearance. Suzuki quotes a curb weight of 200kg.
Modern connectivity and styling
The SV-7S combines its traditional roadster proportions with updated lighting and instrumentation. An all-LED lighting system incorporates a distinctive flat-bottom mono-round headlight with a central LED position light. A 4.2-inch full-colour TFT LCD display provides vehicle information, gear position, maintenance data and electronic rider-aid settings.
Suzuki Ride Connect+ provides iOS and Android smartphone connectivity, bringing turn-by-turn navigation, incoming call and message alerts, weather updates and traffic notifications to the display. The system is operated through the left-hand handlebar controls.
