The natural progression from Harley-Davidson’s Street 500 LAMS machine is to the new Street Rod, which offers a significantly up-spec larger capacity version, based on the same platform, with a High Ouput powerplant and upgraded brakes and suspension.

TECH TALK – HARLEY-DAVIDSON STREET ROD

Harley-Davidson’s Street Rod features the High Output Revolution X 750 V-twin engine, with the liquid-cooled, SOHC 8V, 60° V-Twin delivering peak torque by 4000rpm, while also boasting an additional 1000rpm over the standard 750.

Changes to the HO Revolution X include a larger airbox, dual 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder-heads with high lift cams, and a higher volume muffler. Compression is also raised to 12.0:1, with 65Nm of peak torque. Bore and stroke at 85 x 66mm, for 749cc, and fuel capacity is 13.1L.

The Street Rod also features 43mm upside down forks, with aluminium yokes to keep weight down, rake is 27° for sharper handling, while lean angle in comparison to the regular Street 750 is increased from 28.5° to 37.5/40.2° (right/left).

Rear shocks include external reservoirs and boast 31 per cent more travel, now 117mm, with the swingarm also slightly longer to match the shocks. The wheelbase is 1510mm, with a total length of 2130mm.

Brakes are dual 300mm front rotors with dual piston calipers, with a single-rear rotor and all backed by ABS. Wheels are open spoke cast aluminium in black, with Michelin Scorcher 21 rubber offering good all-round performance in 120/70 – R17V and 160/60 R17V sizes.

The Street Rod has also received the blacked out treatment, with ‘Dark Custom’ styling, including the forks and triple-clamps, engine with milled fins, and exhaust. Forged brake and clutch levers are joined by aluminium rearsets, with LED indicators and tailight, while the screen, tail, mudguard and rear mudguard are also specific to this model.

The single instrument cluster includes a multi-function digital readout, with one display option being a gear indicator and tacho readout. The gear indicator only works with the clutch released.

Other standard features include the locking chromed fuel cap, ‘bar end mirrors, new seat designed to hold the rider in place, and a heel rest to prevent boots or shoes resting on the exhaust guard. Harley-Davidson’s Smart Security System is also standard, with an immobiliser and alarm, linked to a fob.
