Nick has replaced the stock CST tyres on the CFMOTO 650MT staff bike in favour of some new Avon Trailrider hoops. We look forward to seeing how they stand up to his daily commutes...

Nick has just fitted a set of Avon Trailrider tyres to the BikeReview CFMOTO 650MT. Over the next few months he will be putting them to the test on and off road, in the meantime here is some info on these popular 90 road/10 dirt tyres that should suit the MT well…

We had the tyres fitted at Steve Cutting Motorcycles (02) 4323 3599 (formerly Gosford Motorcycles).

The CFMOTO 650MT has been racking up the kilometres lately and we decided it was time to treat it to a new pair of hoops. The CST tyres still had some life in them but when you’re given the opportunity to throw any parts on your bike, you have to take it.

The Avon AV53 and AV54 Trailrider tyres replaced the Distanzia line back in 2015 and they are the perfect option for dual sports bikes that spend most of their time commuting on road. Most dual sport tyre options on the market usually fall short when it comes to dry grip but Avon have put development and emphasis into ensuring adventure fans have a great touring option.

The Avon Trailrider tyres have an aggressive tread pattern on them which matches the adventure bike style but doesn’t take away from the dry grip levels!

The Trailriders have an aggressive appearance, come in plenty of different sizes and are manufactured in the UK. Avon tyres are imported by Pro Accessories, you can check out their website here.

Avon’s performance chart indicates that the Trailrider tyres are predominantly on road but can handle mild off-road.

The 650MT is the perfect candidate for the Avon Trailrider hoops as it spends most of its time riding in a straight line to and from University five days a week, with the weekends for some dirt roads thrown in. The claimed wet performance will be put to the test too as NSW has seen plenty of showers over the past few weeks…

The sizes we used are 120/70 – 17 which has an RRP of $255 and 160/60 – 17 which has an RRP of $289. Head to Pro Accessories here for stock availability. Avon have ensured that all of the most popular adventure bike tyre sizes have been covered, check out the sizing list below!
