Winter is well and truly here, so it’s time to rug up, with the Macna Fugitive glove offering a waterproof cold weather option with high levels of comfort. Review: KH
There’s nothing worse than the cold and wet in winter, but the Macna Fugitive gauntlet type glove offers a sports-themed winter option that isn’t overly thick, features leather outer construction and a TPR knuckle protector, so you can have close to sports feel with winter warmth… Here is our second review on the Macna Fugitive… Read Pom’s opinion here.
Soft goat leather is used, which helps lend the glove its sporty edge, while lining is Bemberg with a Raintex membrane. I did find the lining seemed thicker at the base of the fingers, while my finger tips tended to get cold quickly at highway speeds in single digit temperatures in winter.
In comparison my palm was nice and toasty, with there actually being a bit of extra length on the fingers, which for my hands was too much. This being a Large glove that’s my usual size, but while I was pinched a little at the finger tips on the Macna Assault, while on the Fugitive the sizing did seem larger. Overall comfort is good, with good feel for a winter glove too – which is normally my primary concern as I hate heavy gloves.
The knuckle protection is of soft construction – which helps comfort, while there’s armour at the base of the palm in the high impact/abrasion area. Closure of the glove is Velcro at the end of the gauntlet, with another Velcro wrist adjuster, ensuring a solid fit that will definitely not come loose or off. Just try slipping the glove off with everyone done up – no chance.
For lower speed and warmer riding the Fugitive glove did the trick and the light rain and mist so common during winter was also shrugged off by the glove, keeping in mind it’s the inner lining which keeps your hands dry. The outer can get wet and didn’t suffer any ill effects when that did happen and the glove dried back out.
Overall the Macna Fugitive fills the brief of a sporty winter glove but the fit and lining wasn’t quite right for my hand. The overall build quality and materials are good though, with features like a screen cleaner and touch tip covering the extra features you’d like on a glove that is worn in all weather.
This may have just been an issue with my hand, which is long and thin, but if there was one area of improvement I’d say it would be getting those proportions right. Otherwise the Fugitive is a good option, with good waterproofing, ideal levels of protection and that nice leather outer.
