At $399.95 the Airoh Riot is a middle range open face helmet with premium features and finish. Jeff has been wearing this Airoh Riot General Orange Gloss for 18-months. Here's his review...

I have been wearing this Airoh Riot General Orange Gloss open face lid for 18-months now and, although I only wear it once or so per week, it remains in as new condition despite thousands of kilometers of city and around town use, a few drops, time stuck in pouring rain and even being pinched and played with by my kids at one point!

So there is no doubting the toughness and quality of the brand. Durability is definitely a strong point and I reckon I’ll get a few more years out of it before I hang it up.

The Airoh Riot is comfortable, light and has proved to be durable in wear.

With a price point of $399.95 RRP the Riot is a middle range open face lid with features and feel very close to a top premium open face helmet. The composite fibre shell features a removable and washable liner and the finish is good, with deep gloss and stone chip resistance.

There isn’t a basic chin strap with double D rings, which is my preferred fastening system, instead there is a ratchet type quick release fastener. It works well but I have to admit I feel more confident in DD rings. I do find the material of the chin strap could be broader as it can get uncomfortable at highway speeds when the strap puts some pressure under your chin, however, there is a generous amount of soft material and foam around the jaw area of the strap.

The Airoh Riot is a convenient, stylish mid priced lid with premium features.

There are press studs on the forehead area for adding a peak or full face shield option and the drop down 50 per cent tint sun visor is a fantastic addition. My glasses easily fit under the sun visor and the visor offers some extra protection from rain drops, rocks, bugs and wind.

The visor also adds to the cool look in my opinion and is easy to flip down or up using a small tab above your left eye, even in thick winter gloves it is easy to locate and flip down.

Comfort-wise the Riot initially felt like it was sitting a bit high on my fat head, however, after a few weeks of use, the helmet fitted nicely and now 18-months on it is like it was tailor made for my noggin’.

I’ve washed the liner three times and it still refits with no issue and in terms of cleaning, I have only used soapy water for a few proper cleans and between that I’ve just wiped it with the good old nappy wipes, which are in abundance in my household of six!

All up I rate the Airoh Riot as good value and a choice definitely worth considering if you are after a middle range, well appointed open facer for around town or cruising. At speeds above 100km/h, the Riot can become uncomfortable, but around town and cruising below 100 – 110km/h it is fantastic.

The helmet features some nice touches and levels of safety are good for what it is, so for $399.95 RRP you can’t go wrong.
